After nearly two years of praying and searching for a
Senior Pastor, God led our church to call Dr. John Monroe, from Riverview,
Florida, as our Senior Pastor on November 2, 2008. He accepted the call a
few days later. His first Sunday in the pulpit of Faith Baptist Church was
January 18, 2009.
Dr. Monroe received Christ as his Savior at the age of eight while attending Children's Church at Temple Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA, where he grew up. He followed the Lord in believer's baptism in that same church. Upon graduating from high school in 1984, he enrolled at BJU beginning as an accounting major. Through various difficulties during his freshman year, the Lord began to speak to his heart about fulltime service for Him. In 1985 God called Dr. Monroe into the ministry, and it was then that he changed his major to Pastoral Studies.
After receiving his MA in Pastoral Studies from BJU in 1991, Dr. Monroe went to Tabernacle Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA. Here he served on the pastoral staff for 3 years, during which time he also was working on a Ph.D. in Religious Education. His dissertation was entitled, A Theological Perspective on Counseling: The Sufficiency of God's Word. Dr. Monroe was ordained to the ministry in July 1995. That fall the Lord led Dr. Monroe to take the position of senior pastor at Providence Baptist Church in Riverview, FL–a position he held until coming to Faith in January of 2009.
Susan Monroe grew up in a Christian home and accepted the Lord as her Savior as a young girl. She was baptized and dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age as well. John and Susan met while attending Bob Jones University and were married in June of 1989. Susan's main ministry is in the home, where she takes care of their seven children: Carissa (13), Noel (11) , Angelica (9), Faith (7), John Jr. (5), Luke (3), and Mark (1). Her interests include sewing, crafting, and music, as well as hospitality and ladies' fellowships.
Dr. Monroe states that his role as pastor is "to provide spiritual leadership, care and oversight for the church so that it fulfills its Christ-ordained mandate. My primary role as a minister of the Word is to bring about the maturity of every person."
