Dr. John McCormick, Education
In 1977, John and Debra McCormick moved from Pennsylvania to Greenville for John to major in accounting at BJU. Once there, John changed his major to business management; he then enrolled in the only elective class that would not conflict with his schedule - Foundations and History of Education. It was in that class that God called John into education.

After completing a degree in business management, John began graduate work in educational administration and supervision. Once again, due to "circumstances," the only available course that would fit his schedule was Educating the Exceptional Child. Through personal devotions in I Corinthians 12, God showed John that Christian schools need to provide Christian education to special needs young people. John pledged to be involved in special education wherever God directed.

After completing a master's degree, John sought God's will about the future. He served as a deacon at Faith and was familiar with Hidden Treasure, then in its third year. John contacted Dave Racke, the principal of Hidden Treasure, about volunteering. When God led the Rackes to Puerto Rico later that year, Pastor Vaughn asked John to become the new school administrator. He also encouraged John to pursue a master's degree in special education. Subsequently, during the next five years, John attended numerous classes and in 1991 received a Master of Arts degree in special education. Also during this time, he worked with Pastor Vaughn and several teachers to write Special Education: A Biblical Approach.

Soon after the book was published, Pastor Vaughn challenged John to pursue his doctorate in education. John accepted the challenge and in 1999 received his doctorate in educational leadership with a minor in special education. In October 2000, Hidden Treasure moved into its new 28,000 square foot building.

Hidden Treasure Christian School has had many challenges over the years, but God has always been faithful. His plan is always best. God has given us everything we need to do His will for our lives.
